Provide exact information of battery(voltage, current, remaining level, cycle count of battery -> service life) to the main frame for successful power management at the main frame.
 
1) Prepared protocols, defining the data set at International Standard Organization called Smart Battery
.. System forum(www.sbs-forum.org). Refer to battery system including circuit that complies with it
.. (almost pack type).
2) Refer to battery system that can indicate the information of battery system and communicate with
.. application devices(ex: mobile phone, PDA and camcorder), even if above protocol is not followed.
 
Since existing battery determines the battery status depending on Battery Voltage and temperature, it is not correct. Since voltage and temperature of battery differ depending on size of charge/discharge, ambient temperature, number of battery usage, it is not reliable if based on voltage and temperature only. Otherwise, it causes wastes of available capacity, shortening of battery service life, restriction in charge/discharge. In particular, the biggest complaint of consumer is the inaccuracy of indication of battery remaining level. Smart battery is the batter that solved the above problems by adding intelligent functions to the existing battery in terms of circuit.
 
Most current makers manufacture battery pack with 1 cell, which corresponds to the capacity of up to 4.2V, 500mAH-1200mAH(Li-ion). When it is charged, big current is provided continuously in CC, CV mode and is not difficult to measure the amount of electric charge. In addition, it is not difficult to measure since big current flows during communication(call) and it takes long. But, while in call ready status, low current (under 1mA) flows and about several dozens mA flows due to synchronization with station for short time(50~90Ms) at the interval of 5 seconds(Based on CDMA Profile slot2 mode ). To check it, current measuring speed and calculation of Smart Chip should be done in a short time less than about several dozens mS. Since calculation is required in short time, Cpu Clock increases, resulting in increasing the current consumed in SmartChip itself.(STB-A consumes current while swing between 7§Ë to 134§Ë cycle)

Since the capacity of battery decreases as charging/discharging cycle increases, it should update by saving capacity information in non-volatile memory(EEPROM). In addition, it should be implemented in algorithm suitable to Smart Chip so that calculation of degradation of battery depending on battery feature, charge/discharge depth of battery, and ambient temperature at the time of usage can be used for upgrade of capacity value, forecast of usable time of battery. STB-A is shipped while our patented Smart Battery Firmware is embedded. Our product can be rewritten in 2 k byte flash memory inside the chip.
